About the Postgraduate Program in Cultural Heritage and Society of Univille
The PPGPCS aims to form masters and doctors in the interdisciplinary area of cultural heritage to act in research and teaching in public and private higher education, research and management bodies. The problems that the Program prioritizes to face involve the function of the cultural patrimony (for whom and for what it serves or has served), what needs they attend and must attend and how to do so that they fulfill their function in the society in relation to the production and the sharing of memories and sustainable development processes. The field has been crossed by questions of all kinds, since the right to heritage evokes fierce struggles involving, among other subjects, private property, public interest, security, access to the arts, urban mobility, memory of so-called minorities, access to fundamental rights, informality at work, commodification of culture and protection of biodiversity, just to name a few. Faced with this, important challenges open up as complex problems for scientific research. Thus, the area of concentration of the Program is Cultural Patrimony, Identity and Citizenship, under which the two lines of research, “Heritage, Memory and Languages” and “Heritage, Environment and Sustainable Development” unfold.
